Nursing Teaching on Therapeutic Uses of Xanax

Nurse educated the patient and caregiver upon therapeutic uses of Xanax as follows:
  1. Bipolar disorder: Xanax can be used along with antipsychotics, such as, clozapine and olanzapine, for management of mild agitation and anxiety symptoms during the manic phase of bipolar disorder.
  2. Obsessive-compulsive disorders: Xanax can also help with reducing the anxiety contributing to the obsessive compulsive behaviors and thus can help with managing the symptoms of OCDs.
  3. Sleep disorders: By reducing the time to fall asleep and promoting the actual sleep phase, Xanax can help with relief in individuals with history of sleep disorders and insomnia.
  4. Muscle spasms: Xanax by inhibiting the nerve impulses and reducing the amplitude of muscle spasms, can help with promoting muscle relaxation and offers relief with muscle pain and discomfort.
  5. Anxiety: By activation of GABA-benzodiazepine receptor complex, Xanax results in overall depression of brain and spinal cord, thus resulting in control of anxiety in individuals with history of anxiety disorders.
  6. Panic disorders and dysphoria: By allaying the fears and calming down anxiety, Xanax can help with offering relief with panic disorders and dysphoric states. Xanax can also be used to calm the anxiety associated with pre-menstrual syndrome.
  7. Seizure disorders: Xanax by inhibiting the nerve impulses can help with reduced excitation of nerves, thus contributing to seizure control. Xanax can be used as an anticonvulsant, for seizure control, in combination with other antiseizure medications.
