Patient was educated on storage and transport of oxygen tanks as follows:
- Oxygen tanks should always be stored in well ventilated areas.
- Avoid storing the oxygen tanks in under ventilated and closed spaces like closets, car trunks, and basements.
- Do not drape any clothing at the outlet of the oxygen tank, as fabric can lead to a static and result in accidents.
- It is preferable to store the oxygen tank in a cart always, securely attached. When not attached to the cart, leave the unsecured tank flat on the floor.
- Avoid storing unsecured tanks in an upright position or leaning against a wall. Tanks can be poorly balanced at times and a fall of the tank from this position can lead to gas leak and accidents.
- Do not transport oxygen tanks in car trunks. Oxygen should always be transported in the passenger compartment of the car with the window slightly open, to allow for adequate ventilation.
- Ensure the oxygen containers are securely positioned during transport.
- Make sure you do not transport any alcohol in the passenger compartment of the car, if you are transporting oxygen.
- Strict compliance with no smoking in the car should be followed, while transporting oxygen in the car.
