Patient was educated on acute and chronic hypotension as follows:
- It needs only one of the two numbers in the blood pressure reading to be lower than the optimum defined, to be classified as hypotension.
- Systolic pressure lower than 90
And/or
- Diastolic pressure lower than 60
- Hypotension can be classified into acute or chronic hypotension
- Acute Hypotension
- This is a sudden fall in blood pressure below the optimum levels leading to sudden altered level of consciousness, dizziness, and fainting.
- The causes for acute hypotension can be due to factors such as sudden loss of blood in uncontrolled bleeding or development of an allergic/anaphylactic response to any medications.
- The symptoms developed due to acute hypotension are very sudden and requires prompt management measures, such as, arrest of blood loss, blood transfusion, and administering antidote for allergic/anaphylactic reactions
- Chronic Hypotension- Chronic hypotension is a slow and gradual process.
