Patient was educated on acute and chronic hypotension as follows:

  1. It needs only one of the two numbers in the blood pressure reading to be lower than the optimum defined, to be classified as hypotension.
  • Systolic pressure lower than 90

And/or

  • Diastolic pressure lower than 60
  1. Hypotension can be classified into acute or chronic hypotension
  2. Acute Hypotension
  • This is a sudden fall in blood pressure below the optimum levels leading to sudden altered level of consciousness, dizziness, and fainting.
  • The causes for acute hypotension can be due to factors such as sudden loss of blood in uncontrolled bleeding or development of an allergic/anaphylactic response to any medications.
  • The symptoms developed due to acute hypotension are very sudden and requires prompt management measures, such as, arrest of blood loss, blood transfusion, and administering antidote for allergic/anaphylactic reactions
  1. Chronic Hypotension- Chronic hypotension is a slow and gradual process.
