Patient/caregiver was instructed upon therapeutic uses of Sarafem as follows: Major depression Sarafem, by inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin, enhances the actions of free serotonin in the body. This helps with improved communication, appropriate desired nerve stimulation, thus contributing to controlling symptoms of depression. Bipolar disorder Sarafem can be used along with antipsychotics, such as, clozapine and olanzapine, for management of symptoms during the depressive phase of bipolar disorder.
