Patient was educated on emollient laxatives as follows: Emollient laxatives, also called stool softeners, are agents used to prevent episodes of constipation. Stool softeners mainly contain Docusate, which helps reduce the surface tension, by adding more water and lipid to the stool. Addition of more water and lipid prevents hardening of the stool and maintains it soft. Softening of stools help reduce the pain due to hemorrhoids and ease a bowel movement.
