Patient was educated on emollient laxatives as follows:
- Emollient laxatives, also called stool softeners, are agents used to prevent episodes of constipation.
- Stool softeners mainly contain Docusate, which helps reduce the surface tension, by adding more water and lipid to the stool.
- Addition of more water and lipid prevents hardening of the stool and maintains it soft.
- Softening of stools help reduce the pain due to hemorrhoids and ease a bowel movement.
