Patient was educated on different types of insulins as follows:
- Intermediate acting Insulin
- This insulin generally reaches the bloodstream within about 2 to 4 hours after the shot was administered, peaks sometime between 4 to 12 hours after the administration, and is effective approximately for a duration of about 12 to 18 hours.
- Examples of intermediate acting insulins include, NPH insulins – Novolin N and Humulin N.
- Long acting Insulin
- This insulin generally reaches the bloodstream in several hours after the shot was administered and tends to lower glucose levels evenly over a 24-hour period.
- Examples of long acting insulins include, Insulin Detemir (Levemir) and Insulin Glargine (Lantus).
