Patient was educated on different types of insulins as follows:
- Rapid acting insulin
- This insulin begins to work in about 15 minutes after the shot was administered, peaks in about 1 hour, and continues to work for a duration of 2 to 4 hours.
- Examples of rapid acting insulins include- Apidra, Humalog, and Novolog.
- Regular or Short acting insulin
- This insulin usually reaches the bloodstream within 30 minutes after the shot was administered peaks anywhere between 2 to 3 hours after injection, and is effective approximately for a duration of 4 to 6 hours.
- Examples of regular or short acting insulins include, Humulin R, Novolin R.
