Heme Iron

Patient was educated on Heme Iron as follows: Iron in the human body is available in two forms- Heme Iron and Non-Heme Iron. Heme iron Heme iron is less available compared to the non-heme iron. This is mainly present in the meat sources of iron. Heme iron though less available is easily absorbed in the intestines

Effects of Protein on Coumadin Function

Patient was educated on effects of protein on Coumadin function as follows: Coumadin is a drug that can be highly bound to protein. Protein bound drug cannot exert the anticoagulant effect and it is the unbound free form of Coumadin that is effective as an anticoagulant. So, any mechanism that will influence the protein binding of Coumadin, will influence the anticoagulant behavior of the medication. For example, a diet high in protein can result in [...]

Depolarization and Repolarization Due to Movement of Ions

Patient was educated on depolarization and repolarization due to movement of ions as follows: Depolarization and repolarization are the electrical events brought about by movement of ions in and out of the pacemaker cells and heart muscle cells. The inward movement of calcium ions result in depolarization of pacemaker cell. The depolarization wave spreads from one pacemaker cell to the next. The spread of this depolarization wave along the pacemaker cells results in initiation of [...]

Contraction and Relaxation of Heart

Patient was educated on contraction and relaxation of heart as follows: Contraction and relaxation of the heart muscle are the mechanical changes happening in the heart during one cardiac cycle. Each normal healthy cardiac cycle involves one contraction and one relaxation of the heart. These mechanical events of contraction and relaxation are brought about by movement of ions in and out of the pacemaker and heart muscle cells. The movement of these ions in and [...]

Nurse Teachings on Cardiac Conduction System Details – 2

Patient was educated on the details of cardiac conduction system elements as follows: Bundle of His This is a bundleof cardiac muscle fibers located in the upper part of septum between the two ventricles. Impulse from the AV node reaches the bundle of His in the upper part of interventricular septum. This bundle of fibers branch out into left and right bundle branches, spreading the impulse onto the left and right ventricles respectively. Left and [...]
