Patient was educated on the advantages of having fiber in the diet:

  1. Foods rich in fiber makes one feel full for a longer time and this helps prevent snacking. This will help prevent spikes in blood sugar.
  2. Fiber also helps with portion control, as fiber fills one up easily. This helps preventing excess eating during a meal.
  3. Dietary fiber usually comes from plant or vegetable sources.
  4. Patient was instructed that total requirement of fiber is about 35 – 40 grams per day.
