Patient was educated on vegan sources of healthy fats as follows:

  1. Fats are derived from both vegetable and animal/meat sources and form one of the main elements of healthy diet.
  2. While making choices for fatty foods, it is important to choose foods high in unsaturated fats.
  3. More unsaturated fats in diet are low risk factors for HTN, heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and stroke and so, are associated with good health.
  4. Vegetable sources that contribute to high unsaturated and healthy fats include avocados, olives, berries, beetroots, spinach, and deeply colored fruits and vegetables such as, purple cabbage, red grapes, and red bell peppers.
  5. Vegetable oils such as, avocado oil, olive oil, peanut oil, sunflower oil, canola oil, safflower oil and soybean oil are also rich in unsaturated fats.
  6. Nuts and seeds, such as walnuts, pistachios, almonds, peanuts, hazelnuts, pecans, cashews, sunflower seeds, flax seeds, chia seeds, pumpkin seeds and sesame seeds are also food sources contributing to high unsaturated and healthy fats.
