Metoprolol and Mechanism of Action
Patient was educated on Metoprolol and its mechanism of action as follows: Metoprolol is a selective Beta-1 blocker that inhibits the action of catecholamines (adrenaline and noradrenaline) on the Beta-1 receptors. Inhibition of Beta-1 receptors result in slowing of heart rate and decreases the force of contraction of heart muscle. Reduction in heart rate contributes to low BP.
