Therapeutic Uses of Dantrium-2

Patient/caregiver was instructed upon therapeutic uses of Dantrium as follows: Cerebral palsy Cerebral palsy is a congenital disorder of movement and muscle tone, secondary to abnormal brain development in utero. Individuals with cerebral palsy can present with abnormal muscle tone and spasticity. Muscle spasticity can lead to contractures, rigidity, stiffness, and limited range of motion contributing to significant pain, and discomfort. Dantrium intake in these individuals can help relieve the spasticity and tightness, relax the [...]

Therapeutic Uses of Dantrium-1

Patient/caregiver was instructed upon therapeutic uses of Dantrium as follows:  Brain and spinal cord injury Individuals with brain and spinal cord damage from mechanical injuries, work injuries, and automobile accidents, present with intense muscle tightness and spasticity. Muscle spasticity can lead to contractures, rigidity, stiffness, and limited range of motion contributing to severe limitation of performance on activities of daily living, significant pain, and discomfort. Dantrium intake in these individuals can help relieve the spasticity [...]

Mechanism of Action of Dantrium

Patient/caregiver was instructed upon mechanism of action of Dantrium as follows: Nerve impulses travel from the brain and spinal cord (central nervous system) along the nerves to the muscles. Upon conduction of the impulse to the muscles, calcium ion is released from the storage sites inside the muscle. This release of calcium helps the contractile units of muscle fibers to slide against one another, resulting in muscle contraction. Thus, calcium plays a significant role in [...]

Precautions to be Exercised While Taking Dantrolene-5

Patient/caregiver was educated on precautions to be exercised while taking dantrolene as follows: Dantrolene can also induce hepatic dysfunction and liver toxicity, leading to fatal liver failure. Individuals can present with symptoms of liver failure, such as, jaundice with yellowing of skin and eyes, itching of skin, upper right abdominal pain, abdominal distension, nausea and vomiting, confusion and disorientation, fluid retention in the body with swelling, and compromised appetite. Dantrolene could best be avoided for [...]

Precautions to be Exercised While Taking Dantrolene-4

Patient/caregiver was educated on precautions to be exercised while taking dantrolene as follows: Dantrolene use can rarely lead to bone marrow failure, resulting in low blood cell count. Poor red cell count can lead to development of symptoms of anemia, such as, fatigue, weakness, confusion, dizziness, pale skin, increased heart rate, and shortness of breath. Low white blood cell counts from marrow failure can increase individual’s risk for infections. Low platelet counts due to marrow [...]
