Patient was educated on different ways they can incorporate more fiber in the diet:
- Substitute whole grain cereal and whole grain bread instead of refined and white bread. Check the ingredients for whole grain, such as, whole wheat or whole oats.
- Try brown rice instead of white rice on your meal. Your target is to select foods that provide about 3 – 5 grams of fiber per serving.
- Substitute whole fruit over fruit juice, as the skin of the fruit is very rich in insoluble fiber.
- Try adding peas and beans to soups and salads
- Substitute raw vegetables, such as, carrots and cucumber with bean dip or hummus as healthy snack instead of cookies.
