Patient/caregiver was educated on measures to manage warts as follows:

  1. After each salicylic acid or liquid nitrogen treatment, dead skin at the wart site could be filed away using a pumice stone or nail clipper or emery board.
  2. Individuals having warts must avoid sharing any equipment they use to remove the wart such as, pumice stone or nail clipper or emery board, with others. This helps reduce risk for viral transmission. Also, use separate equipment for wart removal and healthy skin sites, to reduce risk for viral spread to new skin sites. Dispose of the equipment used for wart removal appropriately.
  3. Report to your doctor regarding any warts changing their color, turning painful, suddenly increasing in size, and rapidly spreading to involve new skin sites.
  4. Your physician could choose surgical curettage or laser excision for warts that are recurring or resistant to salicylic acid and liquid nitrogen therapy.
