Patient was educated on warning signs when using anticoagulant as follows:

  1. Warfarin has the potential to cause some serious internal bleeds, which can result in the following findings that need immediate medical attention.
  • Red or brown urine – secondary to bleeding in the urinary tract.
  • Black or bloody stool – secondary to bleeding in the intestines.
  • Severe stomach pain with vomiting of blood that looks like coffee grounds – Secondary to bleeding into the stomach.
  • Bleeding into the joints even on the slightest injury with pain, discomfort, and swelling of the joints.
  • Bruising and ecchymosis into the skin that can develop with or without an injury.
  • Dizziness or weakness – Probably secondary to internal blood loss.
  • Excessive nose bleeds – secondary to poorly managed hypertension, excessive sneezing, or exposure to dry and cold weather.
