Patient/caregiver was educated on precautions to be exercised while taking Versed as follows:

  1. Continue taking Versed, as recommended, even if you obtain relief from the presenting symptoms. Discontinuing the medication abruptly, without your physician’s recommendation, can result in disruption of chemical balance in the brain, resulting in severe withdrawal symptoms.  Discontinuing the medication should be gradual and only as recommended by your physician. Individuals, on sudden withdrawal of Versed, can present with complaints such as, exacerbation of anxiety episodes, precipitation of seizures, muscle spasms and unpleasant withdrawal symptoms of insomnia, impulsiveness, agitation, hallucinations, mania, and suicidal thoughts. Report any development of and/or deterioration of symptoms of mood disorder following Versed withdrawal, immediately to your physician, so that, a change in plan of care could be considered.
  2. Individuals develop tolerance to the dose of Versed with diminished therapeutic response over time. Report to your physician regarding any blunting of therapeutic response, with poorly controlled insomnia, anxiety episodes, seizures, muscle cramps, nervousness, irritability, and restlessness. Your physician could consider a change in the plan of care to provide the desired therapeutic relief.
  3. When prescribed for longer duration, versed can take some time to fairly adjust to your body, before any consistent relief with your complaints and easing of side-effects is experienced. So, do not discontinue taking the medication without your physician’s consult, as you failed to see the desired result immediately after taking the medication.
  4. Your physician could change the dose of versed, based on the response you show. Notify your doctor of any unresolving anxiety, muscle spasms, episodes of seizures, insomnia, or continuing unpleasant side-effects, so that, your dosage on the medication could be revised. Maintain compliance with follow-up physician appointments and be accommodative to the plan of dose changes, until you show an optimum response.
