  1. Viruses constantly undergo mutations and give rise to new variants of the virus.
  2. Multiple variants of COVID have been identified so far around the world during this time of pandemic.
  3. Variant strains of the virus can be different in the mode & ease of transmission, degree of infectivity, and the extent of organ systems affected due to the infection.
  4. Monitoring these different variants is important to study the whole spectrum of disease caused by the virus.
  5. Vaccines authorized for COVID prevention are reportedly effective against most of the variants currently in circulation and these variants of COVID are being monitored carefully.
