Patient/caregiver was instructed on signs and symptoms of UTI as follows:
Signs and symptoms in individuals with UTI can vary slightly depending on the site of infection along the urinary system, from urethra to kidneys.
- Burning sensation in the urethra: Damage to the urethra lining due to various factors, such as, catheterization, sexual practices, and others can increase risk for bacterial colonization and presentation with UTI. Infection in the urethra can lead to further irritation and damage to the urethral lining. This irritation of the urethral lining results in burning sensation of the urethra.
- Cloudy urine with foul smell: The irritation and damage to the lining of urinary system from infection results in discharge that turns urine cloudy. The infection can also lead to foul smell of the urine.
- Frequency and painful urination: The irritation and damage to the lining of urinary system from infection results in frequent urge to urinate and pain during voiding.
