Patient was educated on Trazodone and mechanism of actions as follows:
- Trazodone is an antidepressant medication, used to treat major depressive disorder.
- An imbalance in brain neurotransmitters contributes significantly to the symptoms of major depression.
- Trazodone works by affecting these chemicals in the brain and contributes to establishing the balance in the neurotransmitters.
- Low levels of serotonin in the body result in poor nerve stimulation and is considered a contributory factor to depression. Permissive levels of serotonin in the body contribute to desired nerve stimulation and experience feelings of contentment and happiness.
- Trazodone majorly works by inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin by the nerve endings at the synapse, which is a junction between two nerves.
- This helps with increasing the serotonin levels in the synapse and helps with appropriate desired nerve stimulation, thus contributing to reducing depression.
