Patient was educated on how to track fluid intake when having a heart failure as follows:

  1. Know your limits regarding fluid allowance and ask your doctor regarding any questions you might have
  2. Keep a very close watch on all the fluids you are drinking, as exceeding this limit could be adding additional load on the heart.
  3. Have 8 fluid oz. cup with you always and try to drink all the fluid in a day from the same cup. This will help you keep an eye on the fluid volume you are drinking.
  4. Maintain a diary on fluid intake and on every consumption of fluid, update the volume of intake for the day. At the end of day, add all the volume of fluid intake for the day. This total should be less than your daily volume allowance.
  5. Be aware of small conversions from ounce to cup to ml. One broad measure for conversion could be as follows:
  • 8 fluid oz. = 1 cup = 250 mL
  • 4 cups = 1000 mL = 1 liter = 4 quarts
