Patient/caregiver was educated on contraindications for using Valproic Acid as follows:
- Valproic Acid carries significant risk of lowering the platelet count and result in episodes of easy and unexplained bleeding. Valproic Acid must be avoided or used with extreme caution in individuals with history of thrombocytopenia, as Valproic Acid carries the risk of aggravating the symptoms of this blood disorder. Individuals with thrombocytopenia can present with easy bruising and small purple patches on the skin due to reduced clotting ability of blood and episodes of poorly controlled bleeding into the skin.
- In the event of any current manifestations of any allergic response with this medication, report it to your physician or other health care personnel immediately, to check regarding your safety with continuing on intake of this medication.
- Do not take Valproic Acid, if you ever manifested any allergic response to intake of Valproic Acid. Discuss your history of allergic response to this medication with your physician, without fail.
