Patient/caregiver was educated on precautions to be exercised while taking mucinex as follows:

  1. Mucinex could be taken with or without food. If intake of mucinex on empty stomach causes nausea and vomiting, taking the medication with some food or snack can help avoid these unpleasant gastrointestinal symptoms.
  2. Mucinex intake can sometimes induce headache, dizziness, drowsiness, and result in episodes of confusion, which can be self-limiting and relieve in due course of time. Watching closely for the therapeutic response following mucinex intake, can help with timely reporting of any unrelieved dizziness and confusion with the medication. Taking this medication with alcohol products, opioid pain medications, antihistamines, antianxiety medications, and antidepressants can add to the dizziness and confusion, thus leading to complications and hence must be avoided. Stay away from activities, such as, driving and operating heavy machinery, until you are used to the side effects caused by mucinex intake.
