Patient/caregiver was educated on precautions to be exercised while taking Mitigare as follows:

  1. Low platelet cell production, secondary to bone marrow suppression, can result in episodes of easy bleeding and poor clotting and patients can present with easy bruising and internal bleeding, with patients suffering blood loss in urine and stool, thus contributing to symptoms of anemia. Closely observe for any findings of easy bruising and frank blood in the urine and stool. Report any easy bruising and episodes of blood in the urine and stool, following Mitigare intake, to your physician immediately, for appropriate changes in the plan of care to be considered. Individuals taking blood thinner medications can be at increased risk to present with internal bleeding and Mitigare must be administered with extra caution in such individuals, with close watch maintained for findings of blood in urine and stool.
  2. Mitigare takes some time to fairly control the symptoms of active inflammation. Do not discontinue taking the medication without your physician’s consult, as you failed to see the desired result immediately after taking the medication.
  3. Continue taking Mitigare as ordered, for the prescribed length of time, even if your symptoms of gouty arthritis/renal stones are under control. Discontinuing the medication abruptly, without physician recommendation, can lead to recurrence of gout symptoms.
