Patient/caregiver was educated on precautions to be exercised while taking Reglan as follows:
- Reglan is mainly metabolized in the liver and excreted by the kidneys in urine. If liver function is deficient, the metabolism of reglan can be compromised. Individuals with renal disease cannot excrete reglan and metabolites normally. Compromised liver and/or kidney functions can lead to increased blood levels of the medication for longer periods of time, resulting in increased risk for side-effects and consequent toxicity. Observe compliance with periodical monitoring for liver and kidney functions, to prevent development of any toxic symptoms with reglan.
- Notify your doctor of any continuing episodes of nausea and vomiting, stomach fullness, and episodes of GERD, so that, your dosage on the medication could be revised.
- If you miss a dose, try taking it at the earliest notice of noncompliance. If it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and take the dose scheduled. Do not take an extra dose to try making up for the missed dose. Notify your doctor and other health care personnel regarding your dose noncompliance.
