Patient/caregiver was educated on precautions to be exercised while taking Lioresal as follows:

  1. Hypertensive individuals taking medications for blood pressure control and concurrently on Lioresal for muscle spasms, are at increased risk for hypotensive emergencies, as Lioresal carries the risk of lowering the blood pressure, thus contributing to the effects of antihypertensive medications. Observing compliance with log maintenance of everyday blood pressure readings and reporting any consistently low blood pressure readings to your physician, can help with necessary changes made on your care plan, to help better management of blood pressure numbers and prevent hypotensive episodes from occurring.
  2. Lioresal use, especially in individuals with history of mood disorders, can occasionally result in exacerbation of mania and depressive symptoms, changes in behavior, hallucinations, and compromised sexual drive. Closely watching for the therapeutic response and developing side-effects, with timely reporting the findings to the physician, can allow appropriate changes in the dose of Lioresal and plan of care. This can help with better management of your condition and avoid risk for worsening of behavioral and mood disorders.
  3. Lioresal use, in individuals with seizure history, can occasionally result in deterioration of seizure control and episodes of seizures. Notify your doctor of any new or worsening episodes of seizures, so that, your dosage on the medication could be appropriately revised.
