Patient/caregiver was educated on precautions to be exercised while taking Lioresal as follows:
- Lioresal intake, secondary to depression of central nervous system, results in dizziness and confusion. Lioresal also carries the risk of depressing the cardiovascular center in the brain, which regulates the heart rate and blood pressure. Consequently, intake of Lioresal can result in low heart rate and hypotension, thus contributing further to the dizziness and confusion caused. Individuals with inherent history of low heart rates and hypotension, secondary to Lioresal intake, can be at serious risk of dangerously low blood pressure and cardiac arrest. Avoid sudden changes in position, until you are used to the side-effects of Lioresal intake. Sudden change of positions can make the confusion and dizzy episodes even worse and precipitate accidents and falls. Report any episodes of increased dizziness, syncope, and loss of consciousness while taking Lioresal. Discuss with your physician regarding all your medications and their risk of causing drowsiness and confusion, so that, they could be avoided taken concurrently with Lioresal. Stay away from activities, such as, driving and operating heavy machinery, until you are used to the side effects caused by Lioresal intake. Observing compliance with general fall prevention measures and DME recommended, such as, cane or walker, can help prevent falls and injuries.
- If you miss a dose, try taking it at the earliest notice of noncompliance. If it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and take the dose scheduled. Do not take an extra dose to try making up for the missed dose. Notify your doctor and other health care personnel regarding your dose noncompliance.
