Patient/caregiver was educated on precautions to be exercised while taking Fluticasone as follows:

  1. Fluticasone should be cautiously administered to individuals with history of hypertension and poorly controlled blood pressure numbers. Fluticasone, being a steroid, carries the risk of sodium and water retention in the body, which contributes towards elevated blood pressure. Closely follow for signs and symptoms of elevated blood pressure, such as, headache, fatigue, nosebleeds, episodes of confusion, diminishing vision, chest pain, palpitations, and pounding in the chest and neck. Report any such findings to your physician immediately, so that, an alternative plan of care could be considered. Hypertensive individuals must observe compliance with antihypertensive medications prescribed and dietary limitations recommended. Observing compliance with log maintenance of everyday blood pressure readings can help report any gross elevations in the readings to your physician, for feedback and necessary changes to be made in your plan of care.
  2. Continue taking Fluticasone as ordered, even if your symptoms are under control. Do not discontinue taking the medication without your physician’s consult, even if you failed to see the desired result immediately after taking the medication. Abrupt discontinuation on Fluticasone intake without an alternate plan can result in precipitating the inflammatory symptoms involving the respiratory system back again. Discontinuing the medication should only be on your physician’s recommendation.
