Patient/caregiver was instructed upon therapeutic uses and mechanism of action of Flovent HFA as follows:

  1. Edema and swelling of airways and increased secretion of mucus, Inflammatory conditions of the airways, such as, asthma and COPD, involve significant edema and swelling of airways, with consequent narrowing of airways and difficulty breathing. Increased secretion of mucus during these condition further contribute to the dyspnea and increased effort of breathing.
  2. Flovent HFA is a steroid inhalation medication used to control inflammatory changes in the airways and control symptoms of asthma and COPD.
  3. The steroid Flovent HFA reduces the release of chemical mediators of inflammation, thereby, helps to reduce the edema and swelling of the airways.
  4. Control of inflammation and edema in the airways, with Flovent HFA, leads to improved patency of airways, thus promoting better air flow and reducing dyspnea.
  5. Flovent HFA also controls the mucus production in the airways and helps improve ease of breathing.
  6. Thus, Flovent HFA exerts an anti-inflammatory action, thus helping breathing in individuals with history of asthma and COPD.
