Patient/caregiver was instructed upon therapeutic uses and mechanism of action of AZO as follows:
- AZO is a medication that has a local anesthetic effect on the inner lining of the lower urinary tract.
- The precise mechanism of action of AZO is unknown.
- By having an anesthetic effect on the mucosa of urinary tract, AZO numbs the mucosa of the urinary tract, thus reducing the sensitivity for pain and irritation.
- By reducing the sensitivity for pain in the urinary tract, AZO helps with control of pain and discomfort associated with urinary tract infections. AZO also helps with relief of pain associated with any surgery and trauma involving the urinary tract.
- By reducing the sensitivity of the urinary tract mucosa for pain, irritation, and discomfort, AZO soothes the urinary tract mucosa during episodes of urinary tract infection and helps with relief from symptoms of UTI, such as, burning sensation of the urinary tract, urgency, and frequency.
- AZO also helps with relief from discomfort associated with investigative and therapeutic procedures, such as, endoscopy, passage of urethral sound, and insertion of urinary catheter.
