Patient/caregiver was educated on contraindications for using Arimidex as follows:
- Arimidex carries the risk of causing and/or aggravating cardiac arrhythmias in individuals with history. Arimidex can also interact with many antibacterial and antifungal antibiotics, antiarrhythmic medications, diuretics, antidepressants, and antipsychotic medications, resulting in development or aggravation of underlying cardiac arrhythmias, leading to debility and sudden cardiac death. Avoid taking Arimidex along with medications belonging to the above-mentioned groups, to prevent any dangerous arrhythmias from developing.
- Arimidex works by inhibiting the synthesis of estrogen hormone in the body. Individuals taking estrogen hormone supplements for any reason can have increased availability of estrogen in the body. Concurrent administration of Arimidex with estrogen hormone supplements can result in increased estrogen availability and compromise the therapeutic benefit of Arimidex intake. So, Arimidex should be avoided taken along with estrogen hormone supplements.
