Central nervous system side-effects
- Digoxin can induce some dizziness and make one drowsy. Digoxin use also carries risk for causing or aggravating anxiety and agitation, especially in individuals with history. Individuals can present with complaints such as, feeling low and depressed, anxiety, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, hallucinations, gross appetite changes, impulsiveness, agitation, and aggression.
Digoxin toxicity
- In individuals using digoxin, the risk for toxicity with digoxin is quite high, as the therapeutic and toxic levels of digoxin in the blood are very close. Individuals with digoxin toxicity can present with severe nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, appetite changes, headache, dizziness, confusion, and yellowing of vision. Individuals can also present with life-threatening arrhythmias, with associated chest pain, pounding irregular heartbeat, and exacerbated shortness of breath.
