Gastrointestinal side-effects
- Digoxin use can result in common general constitutional symptoms such as, nausea and vomiting. Taking dose of digoxin with a glass of water, after having some food or a snack can help avoid having unpleasant gastrointestinal symptoms with the medication.
- Digoxin use carries the risk of increased bowel motility and consequently, result in diarrhea. The diarrhea can be self-limiting and resolve in due course of time. Compliance with fluid and electrolyte resuscitation recommendations can help prevent fluid and electrolyte deficits and accompanying side-effects. If you experience any unresolved and continuing diarrhea with digoxin intake, report it to your physician or other health care personnel, to accommodate any appropriate changes in your plan of care.
