Patient was educated on Tapentadol and its mechanism of action as follows:
- Tapentadol is a synthetic opioid pain medication, that is administered by oral route.
- Tapentadol is used to relieve moderate to severe pain.
- Tapentadol binds with the opioid receptors in the brain and block the release of excitatory neurotransmitters involved with pain production. Thus, Tapentadol primarily modifies the pain signaling in the brain.
- This action of Tapentadol alters the perception of pain by the patient.
- Tapentadol is also used for management of nerve pain in individuals with peripheral neuropathy.
