Patient/caregiver was instructed on how to take the arm out of the sling as follows:

  1. Individuals with shoulder pain could be recommended using a sling, as it helps to reduce the weight on the shoulder, relieve the pull the shoulder has from the weight of limb, and support the arm better.
  2. The sling has a waist band that goes around the trunk, a neck band that goes on to the back and around the neck, and an arm piece that surrounds and supports the arm.
  3. While taking the sling off, undo the waist band first. Loosen the neck band and pull it over the head.
  4. Lean forward on to a table or countertop and rest your arm on the surface of the countertop. Supporting the arm on the countertop prevents stress on the shoulder, when the arm is taken out of the sling. Remove the Velcro pads and you can pull the arm out of the sling.
