Patient was instructed on the symptoms of ischemic bowel disease as follows:
- Cramping abdominal pain: Damaged intestines can be inflamed initially and result in cramping abdominal pain.
- Abdominal distension: Damaged intestines can be inflamed initially and swollen resulting in blocking of intestines and abdominal distension.
- Nausea and vomiting.
- Blood in the stool, which can appear bright red or coffee ground, depending on the site of bleeding in the intestine. Bleeding higher up in the intestines can appear coffee ground, due to partial digestion. Bleeding in the large intestines can appear bright red.
