Patient was educated on stomach and functions of stomach as follows:

  1. The stomach is a hollow organ that is in the left upper quadrant of the abdomen.
  2. Chewed food from the mouth passes through the esophagus and enters the stomach.
  3. The stomach is a muscular organ that helps with both physical and chemical breakdown of complex food material.
  4. The churning of the food by stomach muscles helps with physical breakdown of the food material.
  5. Digestive enzymes and hydrochloric acid that are secreted into the stomach, help in chemical break down of complex food material to simpler molecules.
  6. Mucus lining on the interior of stomach protects the stomach from action of the hydrochloric acid.
  7. This partially digested material formed at the end of digestive process in the stomach is called chyme, which enters the small intestine, to be acted upon by small intestinal enzymes for further breakdown.
