Patient/caregiver was educated on management measures for control of statis dermatitis as follows:
- Stasis dermatitis is a skin condition caused by inadequate drainage and increased accumulation of fluid in any part of the body.
- As gravity acting in downward direction generally leads to fluid accumulation in the lower extremities, findings of stasis dermatitis are also more commonly noted in the lower extremities.
- Wearing support and compression stockings can help contain swelling and fluid accumulation in the involved extremities.
- Recommended physical exercise with effective muscle contractions in the involved body part can help promote fluid drainage and prevent development of stasis.
- Do not leave any cuts or wounds uncovered. This can give free access to infecting agents, resulting in infection and cellulitis. Dressing of the wound with regular wound care and change of the dressing can help prevent development and worsening of cellulitis of involved skin site.
