Patient/caregiver was educated on signs and symptoms of statis dermatitis as follows:

  1. Consistent swelling with stretching of skin and oozing of fluid onto the skin can result in inflammatory changes of irritated, red, and itchy skin with local elevation of temperature.
  2. Poorly treated stasis of fluid and chronic inflammatory changes in the skin can result in severe damage to the involved skin tissue.
  3. The involved skin can become thick and swollen from the inflammation, later progressing to death of skin tissue with breakdown and development of ulcers/wounds.
  4. The open wounds are prone to be easily infected and in severe cases can result in complications such as cellulitis.
