Patient was educated on the spacers as follows:
- Spacer is a long tube used to hold the aerosol medication released from the inhaler, until you can breathe it in.
- Spacer is also known as aerosol-holding device or add-on device and are used for aerosol medications and steroid inhalers.
- As the medication travels along the length of the tube, spacers slow the delivery of medication released from the inhalers.
- Delay in the delivery of the medication allows time to take a deep breath to inhale the medication and thus reduces wastage of the medication.
- Spacers especially help with kids and senior citizens, who have difficulty in coordinating pressing on the canister and starting to breathe in.
