Patient was educated on effects on smoking on arteriopathy:

  1. Smoking causes production of free radicals that result in oxidative stress and chronic inflammation.
  2. Inflamed inner lining of blood vessels will set the ground for cholesterol and fatty deposition in the blood vessel lining.
  3. The cholesterol and fatty deposition in the blood vessel is called plaque.
  4. Deposition of plaque lead to the narrowing of blood vessels and restrict blood flow, which lead to peripheral artery disease and clot formation in the extremities.
  5. Over a course of time, this can lead to elevated blood pressure, as the heart is trying to push blood through the narrowed arteries.
  6. Unresolved peripheral artery disease can lead to complications like CHF, Myocardial infarction, and stroke.
