Patient was educated on small intestines and its functions as follows:

  1. The small intestine is a length of smooth muscle that connects stomach and large intestine.
  2. Small intestine has 3 parts in it
  • Duodenum
  • Jejunum
  • Ileum
  1. Food that is chewed and swallowed enters the stomach and is acted upon by stomach enzymes and acid and is partially digested.
  2. Partially digested food from the stomach enters the small intestine.
  3. Bile and pancreatic secretions enter the small intestine through the common bile duct.
  4. These secretions act on the partially digested food from stomach, to complete the process of digestion in the small intestine.
  5. The inner lining of small intestine is thrown into finger- shaped folds called villi, which help in increasing the surface area for absorption of nutrients in the small intestine.
