Patient was educated on small intestines and its functions as follows:
- The small intestine is a length of smooth muscle that connects stomach and large intestine.
- Small intestine has 3 parts in it
- Duodenum
- Jejunum
- Ileum
- Food that is chewed and swallowed enters the stomach and is acted upon by stomach enzymes and acid and is partially digested.
- Partially digested food from the stomach enters the small intestine.
- Bile and pancreatic secretions enter the small intestine through the common bile duct.
- These secretions act on the partially digested food from stomach, to complete the process of digestion in the small intestine.
- The inner lining of small intestine is thrown into finger- shaped folds called villi, which help in increasing the surface area for absorption of nutrients in the small intestine.
