Patient was educated on signs and symptoms of generalized hypoxia as follows:
- Most common symptoms of hypoxia arise from the compromise to the oxygen delivery to vital organs that are extremely dependent on oxygen for their metabolism and normal physiological function.
- Signs and symptoms include
- Extreme shortness of breath: From low oxygen availability to tissues in general.
- Confusion: From low oxygen availability to the brain and nervous system.
- Rapid breathing: A compensatory measure to increase the oxygen supply to the tissues.
- Rapid heartbeat: This is also a compensatory measure to increase the oxygen supply to tissues deplete of oxygen.
- Sweating: Also, a compensatory measure to cool the body and reduce the oxygen needs.
- Cyanosis: Cyanosis is a bluish discoloration of the skin. This is due to either reduced blood supply to the tissues or the hemoglobin deficient in oxygen transport.
