Patient was educated on signs and symptoms of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome as follows:

  1. The signs and symptoms of ARDS can vary in intensity, secondary to the differences in the extent of lung injury and alveolar damage, along with other comorbidities patients can have.
  2. Usual signs and symptoms include
  • Extreme shortness of breath: From low oxygen availability to tissues in general.
  • Confusion: From low oxygen availability to the brain and nervous system.
  • Extreme shortness of breath.
  • Labored and rapid breathing: A compensatory measure to increase the oxygen supply to the tissues.
  • Rapid heartbeat: This is also a compensatory measure to increase the oxygen supply to tissues deplete of oxygen.
  • Sweating: Also, a compensatory measure to cool the body and reduce the oxygen needs.
  • Cyanosis: Cyanosis is a bluish discoloration of the skin. This is due to either reduced blood supply to the tissues or the hemoglobin deficient in oxygen transport.
