Patient was educated on the side effects of using lubricant laxatives as follows:
- Nausea and vomiting
- Nauseating sensation with feeling of vomiting is a very frequent side effect of lubricant laxatives, as they usually are taken empty stomach.
- Malnutrition
- Prolonged use of lubricant laxatives can result in reduced absorption of essential vitamins and minerals from the intestines and can lead to deficiency of fat soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K.
- Diarrhea
- Lubricant laxatives sometimes cause excessive laxative effect, resulting in diarrhea.
- This can result in excessive fluid and electrolyte loss, leading to dehydration.
