Patient was educated on the side effects of using emollient laxatives as follows:
- Nausea and vomiting
- Nauseating sensation with feeling of vomiting is a very frequent side effect of emollient laxatives, especially the liquid forms.
- So, taking them along with some fruit juice or soda can help to avoid the nausea.
- Diarrhea
- Emollient laxatives sometimes cause excessive laxative effect, resulting in diarrhea.
- This can result in excessive fluid and electrolyte loss, leading to dehydration.
- Dehydration
- Excessive fluid loss in the stool can result in low fluid volume and symptoms of dehydration.
