Patient was educated on contraindications for using Naprosyn as follows:
- Naprosyn must be avoided or used cautiously in individuals with history of exacerbation of SOB with episodes of asthma and growth of nasal polyps with other NSAIDs.
- Naprosyn has the potential to compromise coronary circulation and result in chest pain and myocardial infarction. So, Naprosyn must be avoided or used cautiously in individuals with history of myocardial infarction. Naprosyn must also be avoided during immediate post-surgical period, in individuals who underwent coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG).
- Naprosyn is mainly metabolized by the liver and Naprosyn intake can lead to hepatic injury. Individuals with history of compromised liver function cannot metabolize Naprosyn and this can lead to increased blood levels of Naprosyn for longer duration, leading to toxicity. Naprosyn should be avoided or used with extreme caution in such individuals.
- Naprosyn is significantly excreted in the urine. Individuals with compromised renal functions tend to retain the drug in the circulation longer, thus resulting in toxicity. Naprosyn should be avoided or used with extreme caution in such individuals.
