Patient was educated on contraindications for taking Glynase as follows:

  1. Glynase is mainly metabolized in the liver. If liver function is deficient, the metabolism of these medications can suffer. This can lead to increased blood levels of the medication for longer periods of time, resulting in toxicity and severe side effects. So, Glynase should be used with caution in individuals with hepatic dysfunction.
  2. Glynase is mainly excreted by the kidneys. Individuals with renal disease cannot excrete Glynase normally and so, this medication can stay in circulation for longer time and can be toxic. So, Glynase should be used with caution in individuals with compromised renal function.
  3. Glynase usually is contraindicated in individuals with history of sulfa allergy. If you are allergic to sulfa, please report it to your physician, for further guidance. Also, discuss with your physician regarding all the prescription and OTC medications that you take daily, to avoid any risk of cross reaction with Glynase.
  4. Individuals with any history of photosensitivity, skin rashes, and sunburns must exercise caution with use of Glynase and report any of these findings to the physician immediately.
