Patient was educated on the side effects of using Alogliptin as follows:

  1. Fluid retention
  • Though not common, Alogliptin can sometimes result in fluid retention and patients can present with edema, weight gain, trouble breathing, shortness of breath, and fatigue.
  1. Acute pancreatitis
  • A rare, but serious side effect of using Alogliptin is acute pancreatitis with a severe upper abdominal pain, radiating to the back, along with nausea and vomiting.
  1. Acute renal failure
  • A serious, but rare side effect of use of Alogliptin is acute renal failure, with an acute gross reduction in urine volume.
