Patient was educated on the side effects of using Alogliptin as follows:
- Fluid retention
- Though not common, Alogliptin can sometimes result in fluid retention and patients can present with edema, weight gain, trouble breathing, shortness of breath, and fatigue.
- Acute pancreatitis
- A rare, but serious side effect of using Alogliptin is acute pancreatitis with a severe upper abdominal pain, radiating to the back, along with nausea and vomiting.
- Acute renal failure
- A serious, but rare side effect of use of Alogliptin is acute renal failure, with an acute gross reduction in urine volume.
