Patient was educated on the side effects of using Abelcet as follows:

  1. Anaphylaxis
  • A rare, but serious anaphylactic response can occur for Abelcet.
  • Patients can present with extreme itching and rash, swelling of the face and throat, dizziness, bronchoconstriction, and difficulty breathing.
  • This is an emergency and medical attention should be sought immediately, without any delay.
  1. Neuropathy
  • Abelcet intake can lead to diminished vision and hearing loss.
  • Sometimes, the damage can be severe causing the hearing loss to be permanent.
  • Normal therapeutic doses of Abelcet in individuals with compromised renal function can lead to incomplete elimination of Abelcet and elevated drug levels for longer duration, thus precipitating changes in vision, ototoxicity and hearing loss.
  1. Skin rash
  • Abelcet intake can increase the risk for skin rash, ranging from mild to severe exfoliating rash and blisters.
